Program Coordinator,
San Francisco Jewish Community Center

"Working with Naomi Stein has been a true joy. She brings deep cultural knowledge, rigorous research and a grounded creative spirit to everything she does! For Yom HaShoah, Naomi created the most nourishing and delicious raspberry syrup and tea offering, grounding program guests in ancestral memory, cultural research based learning and sensory connection. For another program, Naomi created and hosted an herbal amulet-making station where she invited community members into Jewish foodways and plant practices with care, magical wisdom and heart, making space for connection, reflection and healing. Can't wait to work with her on another project!"

Naomi Stein is an outstanding educator who is strongly grounded in the natural sciences, herbalism, ecological awareness and activism. She brings a unique historical and ethnobotanical perspective to Jewish studies, as well as natural/cultural education for people of all ages. Her work in science education, botanical ecology as well as the healing work she does with Holocaust survivors is very special and much needed.

Our adult students at the Aquarian Minyan Yeshivah have become loyal followers and fans, who can never get enough of Naomi's remarkable, highly professional presentations. She is an open, conscious and engaging
teacher from whom I have learned a great deal both as her teacher, student and collaborator.

Naomi Stein is a brilliant herbalist, historian and educator, and brings years of experience working with and teaching about plants to her work as well as a true passion and joy in sharing her wisdom. I feel very inspired by Naomi’s work to preserve and pass down Jewish plant traditions to the next generation. She has helped many people connect to their Jewish ancestors in the kitchen and in the garden, and has galvanized other herbalists and scholars such as myself to take part in the vital and precious work of recording and sharing the plant and folk traditions of our elders. Naomi makes plant teachings, herbal recipes and techniques accessible and easy to follow, empowering people to make their own remedies while grounding them in ancestral Jewish wisdom.
